The Mozambique is a traditional Cuban rhythm, widely used in Latin American music, and even in popular western music. This is an arrangement for Samba band and small brass section by Dave Boston.
The Maracatu is a traditional rhythm from the Pernambuco region of Brazil. The Maracatu ensemble is smaller in size than a typical Samba band, and they only use a select number of instruments - gongue (cowbell), caixa de guerra (snare drum) and alfaia (an alternative to the more widely known surdo bass drum). This is an arrangement for a large Samba band by Dan Baxendale, using traditional Maracatu rhythms and combining them with original and contemporary drumming music.
Batucada encapsulates the entire genre most people know as 'Samba'. When people think of Samba music this is what usually springs to mind. This is an arrangement for our band by Dave Boston, incorporating traditional polyrhythms, and also using original breaks written in a similar style and nature to the Batucada music of Brazil.
